Community Safety Grants Available. Two grants of £500 each
funded by the Metropolitan Police Authority are available as part of
the North Lambeth People First Expo on 26 January. The grants will
be voted upon by those attending the event. Applications need to
support the MPA’s community safety priorities and demonstrate that
the work will:
·
reduce crime at a specific
location, or as faced by a particular community group in North
Lambeth
·
support diversionary
activities linked to current anti-social activity
·
improve community safety
·
support community cohesion
and bring people together of different backgrounds
Applications cannot be
accepted from political parties or third party giving organisations
and not be used to promote religious beliefs. Projects must be able
to start before March 2008. The Council is administering the grants
for the MPA. Applicant organisations must have a bank account or be
supported by a larger organisation with a bank account.
Organisations with bank accounts which receive a grant will have to
register as a Council supplier. Deadline for applications is 11
January at 5pm to
jchristie@lambeth.giov.uk.
Comment:
If your organisation has a bank account but does not want to
register as a Council supplier, or if your organisation does not
have a bank account, then RCDT (which is a registered supplier) will
be pleased to act as your supplier/banker – no charge.)
Beaufoy Institute. The Charity Commission is
still considering the Council’s request to merge the two Beaufoy
Trusts as a Scholarship Fund with the ability to sell the site. The
Commission is informing objectors that ‘the issues raised in the representations that we
have received about the scheme are complex.
Consequently, we are still in the process of gathering
information from the Council, in their role as trustee.’
Licensed minicabs given red route exemption.
Councillor Robert Banks (Lib Dem,
Oval Ward) wants local residents to know about the new rules
applies to minicabs and red routes. Transport for London has
announced: ‘Hundreds of
thousands of Londoners will benefit from a safer and more convenient
minicab service as the capital’s 40,000 plus licensed private hire
vehicles are to be eligible to stop on red routes to pick up and set
down passengers. The ‘Red Routes’ are only five per cent of the
capital’s road network but they carry up to thirty five per cent of
London’s traffic. From 17 December licensed drivers who display a
new “Private Hire” roundel sign on the outside of their vehicle will
be allowed to pick up and set down pre-booked passengers, but not
park and wait, on red routes. The new sign, which will remind
Londoners that licensed minicabs must be pre-booked, is likely to be
adopted by the majority of private hire vehicles operating in the
capital.’ ‘Minicabs must be pre-booked and are not available for
hire by flagging down on the street. Any minicab touting for hire on
the streets of London is acting illegally and is liable to
prosecution as well as having its licence revoked. Passengers
who take a minicab in this way put themselves at risk as details of
their journey and driver will not be properly recorded.’
